Goof Troop Dinner at Ours

Still a little hazy from last night ... We had Tuesday dinner with the Goof Troop (well, at least the half who are currently not off traveling) at our place.

But first to make matters worse, we discovered half way thru the day that ZimMaid did not show up for work again. She was sick on Friday and apparently still sick (let's hope this is not a sign of things to come). This was not good news as the house was in a bit of a state and with an impending dinner in the evening we were in desperate need of clean dishes!

But first we also had to go shopping so that we'd have food to serve :) You can see how it wasn't the most well planned dinner by now. We managed to get the shopping done, the house cleaned up in record time and start cooking just as the guests started arriving :)

Varen & I made yummy nachos that worked out far better than I'd expected when I made it up in my head the day before. Thanks to Koet, Nambi (& her brother), Daisy, Hammi and Zej for making it a fabulous evening with much wine and even a spot of Champagne :) Oh, and especially Zej for providing the chairs!

And now the house is back to chaos. Fingers crossed that ZimMaid shows up for work on Friday!

Maids, cleaners.. grr.. my filipina cleaner passed me on to her sister, who then passed me onto the cousin, who then passed me onto her mother!! Now I have a geriatric OAP cleaning my place.

@toc - On the plus side, you live in London and you have a cleaner :) And they keep telling us that's one of the perks of staying in SA ... Hmmmm. for my original Maid Rant, read this.

Well being brought up mostly in the UK I have issues with "maids/servants (can one us that word?) and other service providers" - I always feel guilty. I read your original post and think miscommunication with "Service Providers" is universal... I have taken to leaving added instructions so they dont get complacent... one week its clean out the oven etc... I miss my first one. She was fab.. the first time I walked in I did not recognise my flat. Honest to god. It looked like a hotel.

@toc - yup, if you find The One Perfect "Service Provider" (although, I'm thinking that makes it sound more like a cell phone company!) you are the lucky one :) In the mean time tho, I just don't have the energy or inclination to do it myself so I will suffer thru whatever necessary evils to ensure ironed laundry and sparkly crockery!

You guys are so pathetic! ;) We work longs hours and have people round at the house AND manage to clean it ourselves.

Along with do our own washing and ironing and change our own bedding and bath towels!

I'm against having a maid until the day I have a family and things REALLY do build javascript:void(0)
Publish Your Commentup to the point where I need the assistance. At the moment I'm MORE than capable of doing my own cleaning!

@missm - Glad you have your house sorted .. .wanna come over and do mine sometime then ;)

I have no issue with doing the laundry, it's the ironing that gets me! And I wouldn't mind the dishes either ... cause if we didn't have the maid, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have let them pile up so much and it wouldn't be such a big deal. It is more about the expectation ... If I'm expecting someone to come in to do their job, to discover I now have to do it is not on my top 10 highlights of my day!

Philly I completely agree, you hire someone to do the job they should do. What I was commenting on is the fact that you have to hire someone to do it in the first place ;) The root of all problems and all! hehehhee

@missm - yes I do hire someone to do it ... like most people in my income bracket and above in SA. And I *like* having someone else doing it too :)
